I noticed there are some common (and a few less common) terms that are seen in the Sims community that newer Simmers have trouble understanding. I thought I would write this little guide to give those having trouble a helping hand. If you have more to add to this list of terms and definitions, feel free to contact me so I can add more to it. Alpha CC – Custom content with a more realistic look to it than Maxis match content. It is called “alpha” because alpha content hair often uses alpha channel transparency to achieve it’s realistic look.
CAS – The abbreviation of “Create A Sim” which is the “room” in which you create your Sim before starting a new game or whenever you alter the look of your Sim.
Challenges – These are fan created scenarios with fan made rules that players can try to play through in their own games as a way to “spice things up”. Since they are fan made, they do not include official in-game achievements.
Custom Content – Different from mods, custom content are cosmetic game assets that change the look of the game in minor or significant ways. This can include the look of the Sims, elements put onto Sims, objects in their houses, etc.
Maxis Match – Custom content that has been created to have the same or similar look to the original Sims 4 content made by Maxis (creators of The Sims).
MCCC – Abbreviation of “Master Controller Command Center”. This is a huge mod which controls countless aspects of the game from a central menu. It can be found here.
Mods – Short for “modifications”. Mods modify the game’s base code in a way that alters gameplay that can be either minor or significant.
Simblr – A fan nickname for all the Sims fan sites on the blogging social network known as Tumblr. There is no separate site known as Simblr. They are just referring to Tumblr.
Simstagram – A fan nickname for all the Sims fan account on the social network photo site known at Instagram. There is no separate site known as Simstagram. They are just referring to Instagram.
Simlish – The fictional language which is spoken by all Sims in the game.
Speed Build – A time lapse video of a Sims 4 player building a custom lot, usually a house, while in the game over a service such as YouTube.
Streams – Usually done over a service such as Twitch, streams are where the broadcaster plays The Sims 4 in any given way and “streams” it over the internet so that others can watch them play.
Sul, Sul – A greeting in the Sim’s fictional language known as Simlish.
