SE2 Day 1 Building Up
Now that Mia has a job as a Freelance Digital Artist, she takes her first freelance gig to paint a politician’s portrait for about §120 which seems fair. She immediately gets to work on the digital pad to create the portrait and then will submit it for approval. Oh crap, I forgot to have Mia study the reference photos before doing the portrait! Let’s see how this turns out… Rejected, of course. LOL A little major editing later and Mia has completed her first gig and got a bonus for completely it before the deadline. Yay! If only freelance jobs were that easy for me to find in real life!
Mia is now depressed but that isn’t without recourse. I’ve learned a few things since my first experiment. Mia can now either write in her journal or blog about her feelings on a computer to mitigate her sadness so she does those things to help her depression.
The game seems to have glitched or something; the neighbors are just standing there in the hallway with their fruitcake but they aren’t knocking on Mia’s door to trigger the Welcome Wagon event. I can’t click on them either. Weird! Should I reload? Nah, I’ll just wait and see what happens if I wait a while. Maybe if I save then go build up Newcrest for a while and then come back? We shall see…
I like to build up the empty world of Newcrest with lots of commercial buildings for my Sims to visit. I put a little bit of everything there, mostly pre-built Maxis lots but also a few custom lots that I’ve downloaded here and there. I found a pharmacy lot* with supposedly working medicine but it’s four years old so we’ll see if it still works or not here shortly. I still have four empty lots on the map but I’ll fill those up later. For now, it’s back to Mia!
Once back to Live Mode, I edited the calendar to add three new holidays. I added Egg Bunny Day, Freedom Fest, and Spooky Day. You can see the traditions for each holiday in the screenshot next to this paragraph. I wanted to add more holidays but I couldn’t think of any at the moment. Each of the seasons in this game are two weeks long so plenty of time for extra holidays! If I think of any more, I’ll add them later. I’m also open to suggestions so feel free to leave a comment and suggest some holidays for Mia to celebrate!
Well, the neighbors are still just standing there in the hallway doing nothing so Mia got to work on another gig then made a salad for dinner since using the stove without any cooking skills is a very bad idea. (I have learned this the hard way in a previous playthrough!) Besides, salads are healthy and low-fat so it should help her to lose weight. She seems to like the salad (as do I with enough French dressing) so it’s okay for now.
After dinner, one of the neighboring apartments is making far too much noise for Mia to try to sleep but she luckily isn’t too tired yet and there’s painting to do! Besides, knocking on a stranger’s door is something I would never do unless manic or in extreme danger and she’s neither at the moment so painting it is. Oh, it’s also time to do some mundane stuff such as a start a weekly skincare regimen and order some birth control pills from the computer before she has her first period (these are related to the Slice of Life and WickedWhims mods).
Ok, it’s 2am and Mia is finally asleep yet the neighbors are still standing in the hallway doing nothing! I think it’s time for me to do something about them. I tried resetting each of them but that didn’t work so I used MCCC to force each of them to go home and that finally worked! I wonder if they will come back later and try again or if there will just be no Welcome Wagon this time?
Mia woke up the next morning manic and has the whim for an early morning energized jog so I think I’ll let her do just that. After her jog, she searched the neighborhood for free snowglobes and posters to collect because I love collecting things and therefore so does Mia. She found some good ones including one limited edition snowglobe! Now it’stime for Mia to get back to her apartment and continue building those skills to get into a good university with scholarships.
When Mia returns to work on her skills, the Welcome Wagon finally triggers and the neighbors come over to say hello. Since she is currently manic, Mia lets them in and starts chatting them up but quickly becomes stressed out from a panic attack and being around too many strangers at once. Mia tries to soldier through it anyway since once of her goals is to make a least a couple of friends like she’s never had before. She apparently hates the fruitcake that they brought her. Oh well, saves her the trouble of making lunch for today at least!
Once all of the neighbors finally leave, Mia gets back to work on her skills including painting on her easel and reading books about handiness and logic. The idea is to get some skills up to level 3 – 5 and then apply to a relevant skill-based scholarship for university. She’s up to Painting skill level 5 so… Wait, there’s NO scholarship for the arts?!? What a crock!
The next morning, Mia made herself a fruit salad for breakfast then got to work building up her handiness skill (since there IS a handiness scholarship) by upgrading all the plumbing in her bathroom. I’m still upset there are no arts scholarships… What was Maxis thinking, or not thinking?!?! Dammit. I wonder if I could create a relevant mod…
Later, her neighbor Raj came over because he was bored and since Mia was manic and there’s no bad violence in the Sims 4 (unless you install mods that I haven’t installed that is), she let him in. The two started talking and soon became friends. That’s right, Mia just made her very first friend in San Myshuno! I’m so happy for her!
After he left, Mia decided to apply for all the scholarships that she currently qualifies for which was three. It will take a day or so to hear back on whether or not she will be awarded them. Oh, it just popped up that she’s been awake for 24 hours straight. Well, that just happens when you’re manic as I know from many sleepless manic days of my own.
I think it’s now time for Mia to visit that pharmacy that I downloaded and see if it and the medications work or not*. Well, the pharmacy appears to not function as intended and is half empty when Mia arrives plus she can’t actually purchase any of the medications. I am able to click and drag the meds into her inventory so… I’ll just do that then later I’ll see whether the meds actually work later once her mood goes down. At the moment, she’s feeling uncomfortable about being out of her comfort zone but that will fix itself when she returns to the safety of her home.
When Mia gets home, the mail has arrived and so have three letters about those scholarships… she has been awarded two out of three for a total of §900 for university! Feeling okay about that, Mia tries out her yoga mat to do a routine but is about as good at the tree pose as I am, which isn’t good at all. She fell on her ass just like I do. That really made my day for some reason and damn did I need that laugh!
Later, Mia became depressed again so it’s time to test those medications she got earlier from the downloaded pharmacy mod. It worked* I think. I got an error notification but the game is still working at the moment so I’m calling it a win? Now all of her negative moodlets including the depression is gone! Nice! I wish my meds worked that well and that quickly! If only!
Later, her other neighbor Geeta came over and the two quickly became friends now that Mia is happy and hypomanic. Mia now has two friends! Wow! I’m proud of her, and a little jealous. Later Mia applied to both the universities available and started hoping that she will be accepted for not just a regular degree for fine arts but a distinguished degree which has more benefits when she eventually applies for a job with said degree. Only time will tell if her wish will come true.
The next day Mia got a whim to send an energized text to someone while manic so she sent it to Raj who then invited her to the gym to workout for a while. After arriving at the city’s gym, she hit the treadmill, literally. Still, she got back on and fell back off a few more times. She’s determined to lose that weight, dammit!
Mia’s first workout on the treadmill ended but she isn’t fatigued yet so she “pushed the limits” and worked out again on another nearby treadmill. A gym trainer named Supriya Delgato came over while Mia was on the new treadmill and started mentoring her workout. The two quickly became friends! That’s three friends now! I’m so jealous! LOL Once Mia finally became fatigued, she left the gym and returned home feeling good about her workout but also very sweaty and smelly. That’s realism for you! At least she is already looking a little thinner… which is the opposite of realism. Ha.
When Mia returned home, she found that the mail had just been delivered which included her university acceptance letter! She’s been accepted to the University of Britechester for a Distinguished Degree in Fine Art! YES!!! Her first goal has been achieved! Next goal, to graduate with good grades, maybe even good enough grades to graduate with honors which would be a huge step up in her planned career as a professional painter. It will be a lot of hard work but I think she can handle it. I think. We’ll soon find out!
Feeling good but also manic, Mia got a call from Geeta inviting her to the Spice Festival that night and Mia accepted since she was bored but also hungry and who in their right mind cooks when they don’t really have to? At the festival she tried out a few of the less spicy varieties of foods then threw a simoleon into the fountain for luck. She also chatted with Geeta for a while and their friendship grew. Mia is going to miss her friends when she goes off to university. I hope they will think to visit her!
The next morning, Mia went for another manic jog then got some tea from the nearby food stall and sat down next to a raccoon fury on a bench to drink the tea. Yes, look, that happened. Weird is the word for that. This tickles me at times and this is one. I don’t know what the hell a fury is doing there but there it is and it’s creeping me out a bit.
Once she returned to her apartment, Mia used her computer and her acquired scholarships to enroll in the University of Britechester for her Fine Art distinguished degree. She will take four classes this term including an elective to help build her logic skill which will be needed later in her Painter career. She will live on campus at dorm known as Drake Hall. Goodbye to San Myshuno for now and off to university Mia goes!
That’s all for Day 1! Tomorrow Mia will start her days at university to learn and maybe do some university style shenanigans if her changing moods and crippling anxiety will allow it. Will you join us for her university trials and triumphs? I hope to see you here tomorrow!
