SE Day 10 Welcome to the Jungle
Today is the day that Mia lives out my old dream of becoming an archaeologist by traveling to the South American Sim world of Selvadorada to explore the jungles and find priceless artifacts. What dangers lay in store for her and will she return home with fortune and glory? Find out now by reading this post!
It’s the first day of spring and Mia is heading to Selvadorada for one week. She left both Seth and Pippie behind in Sulani so she wouldn’t be distracted from her archaeological studies. Upon arriving, she first heads to the cantina for a drink and to soak up some culture by talking to the locals. Manic Mia was able to talk to enough locals to gain the full level 5 Selvadoradaian Culture skill in one day!
She then headed to the marketplace and bought all of the supplies that she could possibly buy. Mia then sampled some local cuisine and talked to a few more locals just for the hell of it. It is 11pm but she has almost full energy so she will go ahead and enter the Belomisia Jungle to begin her explorations now.
Mia found her first dirt pile at the entrance to the jungle and immediately began to excavate it. She just found her first ancient artifact! It’s an unauthenticated knife. She’ll use the archaeology table she bought earlier to authenticate the knife later. For now, she has reached archaeology skill level 4 and I changed her aspiration to Archaeology Scholar. (Don’t worry, you can change aspirations at any time and never lose your progress in the aspiration you changed from.)
Mia then takes out her machete and cuts away the vines from the first passageway. She is able to correctly solve the prompt that comes up (something about dropping her bag in quicksand) and makes it to the next area to explore further. In the next area, Mia must cross a narrow rope bridge. Luckily, it’s not swaying in the wind so she is able to make it safely across. Yay!
After another passageway or two, Mia makes it to an ancient temple! Wait, why is there a stereo system and a bar in an ancient, abandoned temple?? Maybe it’s a trap?? I don’t know but Mia steers clear of this inexplicable stuff. (Side note: Seriously, Maxis, why did you put this stuff here? Did you run out of decorative ideas or something??)
Mia studies the triggers inside the temple for a way to open the doorway to proceed deeper into the temple. She correctly solves the first and second trigger mechanisms to enter two doorways. (I got to say, this is much easier than adventuring in the Sims 3 which is not necessarily a good thing. I loved World Adventures in Sims 3 and wish the Sims 4 had something more like it than what little it does have here. Maybe they will releases something better in the near future? A girl can dream!)
After getting to the third doorway, Mia suddenly needs to make a quick run back outside to “Fertilize” a helpful shrub then reenters the temple to continue her explorations. Back in the temple, she excavated a few more dirt piles and then got depressed. So she put up the tent she bought at the marketplace while still inside the temple and got some shuteye. Mia wakes up still depressed but soldiers on to finish exploring the temple.
Success! Mia makes it through the final doorway of the temple after examining three trigger mechanisms and somewhat correctly guessing the way forward. I say somewhat because her first three guesses were wrong but she was able to “narrowly avoid disaster” and survive to guess correctly the fourth time while building up certain skills. Anyway, Mia makes it to the center of the temple and finds the elusive treasure chest. Throwing caution to the wind, Mia opens the chest and takes the treasure inside. Luckily for her, the ancient gods decide to bless rather than curse her! Now to get the hell out of here.
Mia has been excavating every dirt pile she comes across but has yet to uncover a “dirt clump” for her aspiration goal. She’ll just have to keep looking. Mia is now archaeology level 6 so she can finally setup excavation sites on dirt piles and get multiple finds rather than just one per pile. Success! She has found a dirt clump! Now to get back to her vacation home and the archaeology table to uncover the artifact within.
Mia then takes the dirt clump to the archaeology table and uncovers the artifact to satisfy the last goal of the first level of her archaeology aspiration. She’s now very tired and heads off to bed. Tomorrow she will stay home and authenticate all of the artifacts she found today so she can either sell them or keep them to display at home. I think the day after that, she will head back into the jungle to see what other discoveries there are to be made.
That’s all for Day 10. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the continuation and probable conclusion of Mia’s jungle adventure. What will happen then and after that? I really haven’t a clue. We shall find out together in the coming days.
