Prefer Tables When Eating
This mod does just what it says, it makes Sims autonomously choose to sit at dining tables when eating rather than standing or choosing odd places like desks and sofas (said as a person who usually eats at her desk or on the sofa in front of the TV; do I even have a dining table IRL??). Anyway, this mod used to be a part of a larger mod that made Sims eat faster but since Maxis made Sims eat faster than they used to, that “eat faster” mod is no longer needed; only this “prefer tables” mod is still needed. So, here it is!
Also included in the zip file containing the “prefer tables” mod is another mod that keeps Sims sitting down at the table after they eat. This mod is completely OPTIONAL. It was a requested mod. They will stay seated at the table until you tell them to do something else or they finally decide to do something autonomously after several minutes (if you have autonomy set to be on). You’ll need to tell them to wash dishes though. Feel free to delete or keep the “don’t get up” mod that’s included with this main “prefer tables” mod.

July 24, 2024 – Both mods in the zip file have been updated for the latest patches (Prefer Tables & Don’t Get Up). Only install one mod or the other, NOT BOTH.

Prefer Tables helped a lot, but I still yearn for something that would make Sims sit at the closest table available.
If I have a yard, I’d like to have patio furniture there for BBQ. For some reason Sims prefer roaming all the way across the entire lot, sometimes to a different floor, to eat on a crummy patio table, even though there’s a proper, fine dining table RIGHT THERE at a spitting distance from the fridge. But if I were to use another mod to designate the seats around that table to be used, then I’d just have the same problem when trying to have a BBQ. So far only solution I’ve come up with is to keep the patio table in household items and only whip it out during a BBQ. Which, while isn’t too much of a bother, is still a bother we shouldn’t be having in the first place. I mean, if I wanted a Sim to eat out in the yard for some reason, I could still order them to go there. But the way it works now, those Sims insist on wasting half the day on getting to a ridiculous place to eat, and if I want to correct them, they’d then waste the rest of the day getting where they were supposed to be to begin with. If only they’d just go “oh, a table, how convenient, I’ll use that instead of searching around the world for other options”.
Anyway, thanks for this. Like I said, it really helped a lot. At least now my Sims will stay at the dining room instead of climbing all the way to the attic to sit on a box because there used to be someone else up there by the time they got their food but who has since left to pick up food of their own to eat out in the backyard.
